2019 Body Balance

Why diet when you can balance your body?

Do I Eat Today?

Did you hear about the Dr. DoLittle Diet? You talk to food instead of eating it.

January is notoriously filled with fad diets, gimmicks, quick weight loss, gym memberships, surgery centers and more.

Eating healthy can change your body, your health, and the quality of your life. Choose a method of eating healthy that is enjoyable, sustainable, and works with your lifestyle.

The reason why so many diets fail is because they aren’t enjoyable or sustainable. Only 64% of New Year's Resolutions last the first month. Only 46% last longer than 2 months.

We have found a method of healthy eating that could work for you. There is no such thing as a magical one-size-fits-all diet and different methods work for different people. Lona has had success with the Dr. Rau's Swiss Secret to Optimal Health. Tricia has success with a version of intermittent fasting. Ramona has success with reading labels, staying away from artificial sweeteners, chemicals, additives, preservatives and eating real food.

Just make sure that whatever approach you take is one you will actually enjoy and be able to maintain over time. In the upcoming days and weeks we will post information concerning Dr. Rau's plan which is easy to follow and even has a list of shopping ingredients.

A simple daily routine: eat like a King at breakfast, a prince at lunch and a pauper at dinner.  Breakfast can consist of oatmeal, grapefruit (good for circulation and gall bladder), espresso (if you choose coffee), and hot herbal tea. At lunch have a good meal with an appetizer, soup, and a main dish. In the evenings, a small meal of soup and vegetables.

At Texas Biological Medicine, Inc., we would like to provide you and your family an eating plan that suits your lifestyle, body, and schedule.  Call our office at 972-233-8339 to discuss a customized treatment plan.

Helpful Tips For Eating

Create a weekly meal plan and prep. We all know what happens when our bodies become ravenous -- we make bad choices. Have ingredients on hand. Set aside time to make meals. Be prepared with handy healthy snacks. Decide what to eat before it's time to eat.

Tidy Up Your Eating Area. One study showed that you eat more sweets when you are surrounded by clutter. Eat and cook in an area that's clutter free.

Take back your lunch break.  One in five Americans do not take a lunch break. This can make you less productive. Use the time to get away from it all and chill, make a movie on your smart phone, catch up with friends, read a book, or get your steps done for the day. Another trick, make enough dinner for lunch so a bad choice doesn't let you stray.

Eat Your Fruit before 4 p.m. Easy trick -- instead of that big bag of apples/oranges, purchase different fruits so you have variety. This way you won't get bored. Remember, if an apple isn't appealing, you aren't really hungry.

Keep junk foods out of the house. When you stop smoking, you don't carry cigarettes. Why would you have that big bag of chips? Your family will survive so stop tempting yourself. You do want them to be as healthy as you, right?

Eat mindfully once a day.  Smell what's on your plate for 30 seconds. Chew your food 27 times. Put down your fork between bites and savor the flavor left in your mouth. What tastes buds were activated? Notice how the food feels in your stomach. Here is a link that explains the value of Mindful Eating by Psychology Today.

Experiment with new foods. Most people eat the same meal over and over again. Our bodies like variety and so do our spleens. Our nature is one of curiosity. Get curious about ancient grains you've never tried. Embrace a new recipe. Be willing to throw food away that doesn't appeal and remember, you will find a few new favorites. This is a lifestyle change so find those foods that work for you.

Stop the crazy. Deprivation never looks sexy. And its-too-good-to-be-true isn't truth. Recently a client purchased a Keto Sweets Cookbook. She told me there wasn't one recipe she could make because it had strange ingredients. Erythritol? Here's an article by Dr. Axe. Monk Fruit Powder? The controversy runs rampant as you can read here. What happened to sensible. If you can't make sense of the crazy and too-good-to-be-true, find someone who you trust to help you. We are here to help you make sense of what is right for you.

Oops. I Overdid!

Benjamin Franklin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”

Where did you go wrong in your planning?

Did you deliberately decided to eat that whole bag of chips?

Take a moment to notice what went wrong and why. Were you too hungry?  Did you step back into an old habit?  Did you feel emotional? If so, what emotion caused you to go off plan?

Stop the mental drain by figuring out why you did what you did, filing that as information, and get back on track again. Be kind to yourself. Stop the negative self talk. Everyone has a bad day. It's okay. You don't have to make the whole day bad after that bag of chips.

Get your mind off your mood. Call a friend. Get a manicure or pedicure. Take a golf lesson. Visit Tricia Wade. One of the best ways to release those toxins is with an L.E.T. session. The body stores toxins in the lymphatic system and the machine removes those toxins and helps you release them faster. Some patients have experienced up to a five pound weight loss in one session.

You have started to regain your health and a few detours won't make a difference at year end. Remember -- this is a lifestyle change, not the apocalypse.

Health experts and chefs recommend that we eat seasonally. What foods nourish and speak to your soul through the seasons of life?

Here are some of January's favorite crops:

Beets (Don't beet around the bush. Begin eating healthy today.)

Broccoli

Brussels sprouts

Cabbage

Carrots (If you add 14 carrots, your soup will be rich.)

Cauliflower

Chicory

Clementines

Grapefruit

Kale

Kiwi

Leeks (The fact that I'm popular this month has been leeked to the press.)

Lemons

Mushrooms

Onions

Oranges (The orange went out with the prune because he couldn't find a date.)

Parsnips

Pears

Persimmons

Pomegranates

Rutabagas

Shallots

Spinach (Spinach leaves are never lonely because they come in bunches.)

Sweet Potatoes

Tangelos

Tangerines

Turnips (Don't turn up at the candy counter if you want to get healthy this year.)

Winter Squash

Did you find a favorite food in the list? If not, would you be willing to try something new? The Swiss Secret to Optimal Health has at least 30 pages of easy recipes with these above items. Dr. Rau's Success Diet has 143 pages of recipes. This can be found in our office.
